ABOUT US

Indigenous Association of Ancestral Markings (IAAM) is a collective that addresses the many challenges faced by Indigenous tattoo practitioners. We draw from our origins in our use of traditional tools and aim to protect, perpetuate, and revitalize ancestral knowledge.

We seek direction on a uniquely Indigenous path, striving to be a source of nourishment for our people, and to honor those that have come before us. To take back what has been stolen and misappropriated. Coming from many Indigenous cultures and directions, we unite within a common goal to maintain and strengthen the integrity of our practice.

We commit to strengthening relationships between Indigenous communities worldwide, reconnecting to our cultural traditions, and healing the effects of colonization. We are inheritors and practitioners of cultural ways of relating to people, the environment and all that is. We share our voices to teach, to learn, to support and to stand united, honoring our ancestors.

These are marks of transition for us. We’re still trying to come out of survival mode and move into revival.
